India is yet to win a medal at the Rio Olympics 2016. After India’s best contender for a podium finish died with Saina Nehwal’s exit in the 2nd round, P V Sindhu remains to be the only female badminton player in the competition at Rio. She will face Chinese World No.2 Wang Yihan in the singles Quater finals. India’s medal-less performance poses some serious questions. Though some have been just unlucky days for the Indian contingent, as despite good performances from Abhinav Bindra and Dipa Karmakar, medals were decided by the decimal points. As we go through the schedule, one must remember that hope still exists as the athletes will be giving nothing short of their best.

Badminton: Shuttler P V Sindhu carries India’s medal hope on day 11 of the Olympic Games as she takes goes one on one against China’s Wang Yihan, London Olympics 2012 silver medalist. Sindhu is a two-time bronze medalist in World Championship and defeated Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying in a dominating fashion to advance to the final 8 of the women’s singles. The 21-year-old from Hyderabad outclassed eighth seed Tai 21-13 21-15 in a 40-minute pre-quarterfinals clash. Sindhu’s match will be live telecast at 3.25 AM IST (Wednesday).
