India clinched the title of ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 champions after a dominant nine-wicket victory over South Africa in the final at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Sunday.
Gongadi Trisha was the standout performer, excelling with both bat and ball. She scored an unbroken 44 off 33 balls and took 3 wickets for 15 runs, leading India to a comprehensive win and securing their second consecutive ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup title.
Chasing a modest target of 83, India made a strong start with openers Gongadi Trisha and Kamalini Gunalan, who put on 36 runs for the first wicket before Gunalan was dismissed by Kayla Reyneke.
Sanika Chalke joined Trisha at the crease, and together they kept the runs flowing, finishing the powerplay at 44/1. Trisha, in particular, was proving difficult to bowl to, while Chalke played the perfect supporting role, hitting timely boundaries.
With just 12 runs needed off the last 10 overs, the pair accelerated the chase, hitting a couple of fours in the 11th over. Chalke then sealed the win with a boundary in the 12th over, guiding India home in just 12.1 overs.
Earlier, South Africa, electing to bat first after winning the toss, found themselves on the back foot early, losing three wickets within the first five overs. Skipper Kayla Reyneke and wicketkeeper Karabo Meso tried to rebuild the innings, but India’s bowlers were relentless, not giving away easy runs.
Reyneke and Meso were both dismissed in quick succession, leaving South Africa at a precarious 45/5 by the end of the 13th over. Mieke van Voorst provided some resistance with a few boundaries, but Trisha ended her innings, and India continued to tighten the noose.
South Africa’s tailenders managed to bat out the full 20 overs, but their total of 82 was far from challenging. India’s bowlers completed a clinical performance, with the final wicket falling off the last ball of the innings as South Africa was bowled out.
