Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday extended his best wishes to the ‘Men in Blue’ ahead of the World Cup final against Australia. Through his official handle on X, PM Modi expressed that “140 crore Indians” would rally behind the team as they faced the five-time world champions on the field. He conveyed that he hopes captain Rohit Sharma and the team would exhibit fierce competitiveness in the high-stakes clash while upholding the spirit of sportsmanship.

PM Modi‘s message on X read, “All the best Team India! 140 crore Indians are cheering for you. May you shine bright, play well and uphold the spirit of sportsmanship.”

India secured a spot in the finals with a commanding 70-run victory over New Zealand. The explosive opening by Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, followed by centuries from Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer, set the stage for a formidable target of 397/4. KL Rahul’s finishing touches ensured India reached this imposing total. Despite New Zealand initially having control in the chase, well-timed interventions by Mohammed Shami secured India’s place in the final.

In the second semi-final, South Africa gave Australia a tough challenge by setting a modest target. However, Australia’s skipper Pat Cummins and speedster Mitchell Starc held their nerves, leading the hosts to a hard-fought three-wicket victory.
