The glitzy and glamorous opening ceremony of World Cup 2023, which was initially planned to take place on October 4, has reportedly been canceled by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
According to multiple media updates, there won’t be an opening ceremony for the ICC ODI Cricket World Cup 2023, but these reports couldn’t be independently verified by financialexpress.com.
However, the fans can maintain optimism as the BCCI has not made an official announcement regarding this matter.
Opening ceremony called off or still on?
Numerous reports have emerged stating that the grand opening ceremony, which had been meticulously arranged by the BCCI, will not take place. The event was originally scheduled for October 4 at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium and was anticipated to feature a star-studded lineup including Ranveer Singh, Arijit Singh, Tamannaah Bhatia, Shreya Ghoshal, and Asha Bhosle, accompanied by an extravagant display of fireworks and a laser show.
Captains’ Day event
Nevertheless, the Captains’ Day event, slated to follow the opening ceremony, remains on the agenda, as per the reports. All 10 captains from the participating teams, including Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, are expected to be in attendance for this event, followed by an impressive laser display.
Closing ceremony still on cards
There are also reports suggesting that the BCCI is contemplating organizing a pre-match function ahead of the highly anticipated India-Pakistan clash on October 14 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Furthermore, the BCCI may arrange a closing ceremony on the final day, which falls on Sunday, November 19, in Ahmedabad.
India is set to commence their World Cup campaign on Sunday, October 8, against Australia in Chennai. With a formidable squad and the advantage of playing on home turf, India is widely anticipated to make a strong bid for victory in this tournament, potentially breaking their ICC title drought dating back to their Champions Trophy win in 2013.
