Amid the test match fever, the biggest question on every Indian fan’s mind is – When is Virat Kohli making a comeback in the playing 11? As the speculations go on, former South Africa captain AB de Villiers made a stunning U-turn on Friday when he retracted his earlier statement on Kohli’s personal life. In an interview, de Villiers had said that Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma were expecting their second child.

During an interview with Dainik Jagran newspaper on February 3, de Villiers talked about Kohli’s well-being, stating, “Yes, they’re expecting their second child.” He emphasised the importance of family values, saying, “Family matters and Virat values that.” He acknowledged Kohli’s decision, saying, “Family takes precedence for most people. We miss him, but he’s made the right call.”

However, in a surprising turn of events, de Villiers admitted to sharing false information about Kohli in a new video. Expressing regret, he said that, “I also made a terrible mistake at the same time sharing false information which was not true at all.” He reiterated the significance of family, stating, “Family comes first, it is the priority as I said on my YouTube show.”

Reflecting on Kohli’s break from cricket, de Villiers remarked, “I think whatever is the best for Virat and his family comes first.” He added, “No one knows what is happening there and all I can do is wish him well.”

Kohli’s absence from the England Tests was unexpected, as he initially was part of the squad. However, he withdrew from both matches before the series opener in Hyderabad, citing personal reasons.
