Just days before the Asia Cup 2025, fantasy sports platform Dream11 has decided to step back from being the lead sponsor of the Indian cricket team, NDTV reported citing sources.

The move comes soon after Parliament passed the ‘Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025,’ which bans real-money gaming platforms such as Dream11.

As of now, neither the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) nor Dream11 has issued an official statement, but reports suggest that the platform is not willing to continue its deal. This means Dream11 may no longer be on Team India’s jerseys when they step out for the Asia Cup.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, when asked about the situation on Friday, made it clear that the board will comply with the law. “If it’s not permissible, we’ll not do anything. The BCCI will follow every policy of the country that is framed by the central government,” Saikia said.

Dream11 branding jerseys already printed

The BCCI is now expected to invite new bids for the jersey sponsorship rights. However, if a new sponsor is not finalised before the Asia Cup begins on September 9, India might have to play the tournament without a lead sponsor. Interestingly, the jerseys with Dream11 branding have already been printed, but they won’t be used for the event, the report mentioned.

Dream11 first signed its deal with the BCCI in 2023, worth Rs 358 crore, which included Rs 3 crore per home game and Rs 1 crore per away game.

The Asia Cup 2025 will kick off in the UAE on September 9, with matches in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The final is scheduled for September 28. India has announced its 15-member squad, led by Suryakumar Yadav, with Shubman Gill as vice-captain.

‘Dream Money’ app

In another news, Dream Sports, the parent company of Dream11, has begun testing a new personal finance app called ‘Dream Money’, Moneycontrol reported. The app allows users to invest in gold, fixed deposits, and also track their daily spending.

Through Dream Money, people can start a Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) in gold with as little as Rs 10 per day or per month. For this service, Dream Sports has partnered with Augmont, a digital gold trading platform.
