After Neeraj Chopra clinched the silver medal in the men’s javelin throw at the Paris Olympics on Thursday, a host of Bollywood celebrities, including Vicky Kaushal, R Madhavan, and Malaika Arora, took to social media to celebrate the 26-year-old Indian athlete’s impressive feat.
R Madhavan was among the first to extend his congratulations, expressing admiration not only for Neeraj Chopra but also for Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who set a new record with a 92.97-meter throw to secure the gold. In a heartfelt message on his Instagram stories, Madhavan praised both athletes and rejoiced in the historic moment that saw India and Pakistan sharing the podium at an Olympic event. His words, “What a wonderful match… the sport won today,” perfectly encapsulated the spirit of unity and sportsmanship that transcended national boundaries.
Vicky Kaushal also shared his pride and admiration for Neeraj on Instagram Stories, writing, “Season Best Performance. You always make us proud brother!!!”
Meanwhile, Malaika Arora, who is currently in Paris for the 2024 Olympics, expressed her joy at witnessing the historic event firsthand. Sharing a clip of Neeraj Chopra, she wrote, “What a proud moment for my India. And to witness it live @neeraj_chopra.”
Bollywood actress Rakul Preet Singh also celebrated Neeraj’s accomplishment by posting a photo of him on her Instagram account, along with the message, “Woohoo! Neeraj, you’ve done it again! Congratulations on securing your second Olympic medal! India beams with pride!”
Despite falling short of retaining his gold medal, Neeraj Chopra showcased a commendable performance, achieving a best throw of 89.45 meters. Regardless of four consecutive foul throws, his second-place finish still made him the second male athlete from post-independence India to win two Olympic medals in an individual event. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem claimed the gold with a remarkable 92.97-meter throw on his second attempt, a distance that ranks as the sixth longest in history, leaving the Stade de France in awe.
