The upcoming 93rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the BCCI, scheduled for Sunday (September 29), will primarily focus on electing two representatives for India to attend ICC meetings, as discussions on finding a successor to current secretary Jay Shah are not on the agenda.

This meeting is particularly significant due to an International Cricket Council conclave planned in Dubai following the Women’s T20 World Cup, with the final taking place on October 20. Jay Shah will still be in his position at that time, as he is set to become the ICC chairman on December 1, and is expected to represent the BCCI at the Dubai meeting.

Historically, Shah has represented India in ICC discussions, succeeding Sourav Ganguly as BCCI president. While current president Roger Binny serves as the Alternate Director, he rarely attends such meetings. With one year left in his tenure, it is unclear if Binny will continue in this role or if a new nomination will be made at the AGM.

BCCI’s new secretary

Although the election of a new secretary is not on the official agenda, members are likely to discuss potential candidates to succeed Shah. The leading contenders appear to be Anil Patel, secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association, and Rohan Jaitley, president of the Delhi and District Cricket Association.

Other potential candidates include BCCI treasurer Ashish Shelar and joint secretary Devajit Lon Saikia, though Patel is currently seen as the frontrunner. The appointment will be formally confirmed at a Special General Meeting (SGM), the date of which is expected to be announced after the AGM.

AGM set to induct ICA representative into IPL Governing Council

Additionally, the AGM will confirm the induction of a representative from the Indian Cricketers Association (ICA) into the IPL Governing Council. V Chamundeswaranath, a veteran administrator and former Andhra player, is expected to continue in this role, while two more members from the General Body will be nominated to the IPL GC.

Other discussions at the AGM will include the appointment of sub-committees such as the Cricket Committee and the approval of the annual budget for the 2024-25 season. The board will also review a report from its internal committee formed under the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Policy.
