National Institute of Water Sports (NIWS), Goa
The Institute was set up by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India in 1990 at Goa as an apex institution for recreational watersporting and aqua-tourism in India. Its mission is to promote aqua-based leisure, recreation, tourism and adventure development and its practice in a manner that is enjoyable, safe, responsible and accessible to all. The Institute rigorously pursues varied activities and continuously strives for professionalization of the industry. There exists complete agreement on the imperative of establishing the frameworks and standards for the safe practice of recreational watersports in India.

Indian Mountaineering Foundation
The Indian Mountaineering Foundation is the apex national body for mountaineering and allied sports. What was initially formed as the ‘Sponsoring Committee of the Cho Oyu Expedition’, transformed into the IMF on 5th January, 1961. IMF supports, promotes and regulates national and international climbing and mountaineering in India and is affiliated to the UIAA (International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation). IMF is also the regulatory body for the competitive Olympic sport of Sport Climbing and is affiliated to the IFSC (International Federation of Sport Climbing). IMF is also engaged in mountain protection work, knowledge building and creating awareness of the Indian Himalaya.
Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering (IISM), Gulmarg
The Indian Institute Of Skiing and Mountaineering, Gulmarg is a modern and the most popular ski training institute of our country which was established by the Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India at Gulmarg in 1968. In addition to developing the skills of adventure, it acts as an advisory body to the Ministry of Tourism for formulation of national adventure policies/programs and coordination of activities of various central and state govt. and private agencies for development and promotion of adventure tourism in the country. It conducts adventure training activities in all fields of the adventure to train citizens so as to promote adventure tourism and develop new adventure destinations in the country. The Institute trains youth of the Nation including J&K in different adventure skills through different courses.
Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi
Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) is rated as one of the best mountaineering institutes in India and also considered as the most prestigious mountaineering institutes in Asia. The aim of the Institute is to introduce and initiate young men, women and school children to the mountains and nature through its various Mountaineering and Adventure courses. Emphasis is laid on instilling the concept of Adventure and following conventional environmental guidelines to ensure environmental awareness and conservation.
Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Water Sports (JIM-WS), Pahalgam
The Institute was established in 1983 at Aru, near Pahalgam, J&K with a view to provide numerous adventurous activities at one place in close proximity of each other. In addition to the existing adventure, Basic and Advance Mountaineering Courses and Basic, Intermediate, Advance skiing course, the Institute has also started conducting ad-hoc and special adventure courses, river rafting, and paragliding in the curriculum of adventure sports. These courses are being conducted under the vigilant guidance of highly skilled and professional Instructors. The Institute also provides technical expertise to different organizations interested in mountaineering expeditions.
National Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (NIMAS), Dirang
The National Institute of Mountaineering & Adventure Sports at Dirang in Arunachal Pradesh operates under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. The institute started functioning with effect from 30th May, 2013. It offers training across land, air and water—a first of its kind that allows civilians to experience challenges across a variety of outdoor surfaces as well as pursue a career in adventure sports. Every training programme at NIMAS draws upon the ideas of self- exploration and individual evolution.
Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI), Darjeeling
HMI is one of the premier mountaineering institutes in the world. Founded on November 4th, 1954 by none other than Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, the Institute is located in the picturesque hill station of Darjeeling. HMI is now a prominent landmark of Darjeeling and a leading tourist attraction. It commands a magnificent view of Mount Kanchenjunga, the third-highest peak in the world. The Institute has an international reputation and has trained thousands of people from across the globe in mountaineering and allied adventure activities. It has modern training facilities like the indoor and outdoor climbing walls. HMI has the oldest mountaineering museum in the country which was established in 1957. It also serves as a centre of educational research on mountaineering activities both for trainees and research scholars.
