Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday said he plans to invite a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) team to assist in the expansion of Mumbai’s Metro network.

The state government has cleared the construction of 72 kms of metro network in the city. At present, only a 11.40-km corridor of the city’s Metro network is operational on and caters to about 2.62 lakh commuters a day. “An infrastructure projects typically takes six to seven years to complete. However, I want the 120-km Metro network to be completed by 2019,” he said. The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation, the nodal agency which is developing the Metro project in the financial hub of the country, will seek assistance from DMRC.
