Nothing Phone 2a, Nothing’s most affordable smartphone to date, aims to bring company’s signature see-through design language and clean and functional Android experience to the masses. Launched in India at a starting price of Rs 23,999, the Phone 2a ‘looks’ like it packs great value. There’s nothing quite like it in the market today, in fact. Nothing says the Phone 2a delivers its lowest carbon footprint in a smartphone yet. At 52kg, it’s 12.5 percent lower than that of the Phone 1. The company says it is repurposing plastic waste from its Ear 2 production line to make the Phone 2a using a new recycling process. The packaging is ‘plastic free’ and the phone itself contains ‘a number of’ recycled materials. (Photo credit: Saurabh Singh/Financial Express)

The Phone 2a has an IP54-rated chassis made of polycarbonate. The back panel is divided into two halves. The upper half houses the ‘brain’ with the dual camera setup housing laying on top of the NFC coil. This layout is behind Nothing’s ‘fresh eyes’ marketing campaign. The lower half is ‘intentionally’ asymmetrical, Nothing says, to disrupt the flow of the top. The inspiration for this was Massimo Vignelli’s New York subway map. The glyph LED lights and interface have stuck around despite the lower pricing, though Nothing has toned them down ‘aesthetically’. The Phone 2a has a trio of light strips with 26 individually addressable zones supporting a wide array of functions from indicating the volume, to waking up for ‘essential’ notifications. Powering the Phone 2a is a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 ‘pro’ chip and a 5,000mAh battery. Nothing says it has worked exclusively with MediaTek to squeeze most out of the processor while also ensuring ample efficiency. The phone supports 45W fast charging. (Photo credit: Saurabh Singh/Financial Express)

For photography, the Phone 2a has a dual camera setup on the rear with a 50MP wide (f/1.8, OIS) and another 50MP ultrawide (without autofocus). The main camera can shoot 4K@30fps while the front 32MP camera is limited to 1080p@30fps. (Photo credit: Saurabh Singh/Financial Express)
