Indian Embassy in Bhutan said in a statement on Thursday that it has been proposed to retail Khadi in Thimphu to bring the heritage fabric of India to Bhutan. Innovative Khadi-based garment lines from India were displayed by the works of Anamika Khanna, Rajesh Pratap Singh and Samant Chauhan. From Bhutan, works of Chadrika Tamang, Kencho Wangmo, Tshering Choden & Sangay Choden were on display. Six Indian designers (Anjana Bhargav, Nitin Bal Chauhan, Paras Gairoliya, Payal Jain, Rahul Mishra & Renu Tandon) created a special Khadi ensemble each, the Indian Embassy in Bhutan said. The objective of the even was to encourage traditional textiles and weaving and to encourage a collaboration between the traditional textile artisans and designers from both countries. Last year, the then Minister for Commerce and Industry had said, “The export prospects of Khadi is rest assured with world moving towards natural and Eco-friendly Products. More and more people are becoming conscious of responsibility towards the environment and ecology and greater demand is being generated for bio-degradable and Eco-friendly products.
