Uncontrolled wildfires are sweeping through parts of Los Angeles, causing at least five fatalities, destroying hundreds of structures, and forcing the evacuation of nearly 180,000 residents throughout the county. Despite the hard work of firefighters, the largest fires remain completely uncontained, with weather conditions and the ongoing effects of climate change likely to intensify the situation for several more days.
In Los Angeles County, around 179,000 residents are facing evacuation orders, with many leaving their homes with only what they can carry. An additional 200,000 residents are under evacuation warnings, indicating they may soon be required to evacuate.
