Kudos to SBI
This is in reference to the SBI chairman’s speech on the third quarter results. Kudos to SBI for making their facilities friendly for the differently-abled, by installing “Talking ATMs” enabling the visually-challenged to use ATMs and more ramps at ATMs for helping those with motor disabilities. India has one of the largest population of differently-abled people. Though a lot has been done by the government and various voluntary organisations for their welfare, there is a long way to go. First and foremost, the society’s perception and mindset about differently-abled people needs to change. People and organisations should realise that they are normal human beings and one among us and not discriminate for employment opportunities. The employment and vocational avenues for them should be widened and they should be given equal opportunity to participate in all activities of life. Some of the differently-abled people are very talented and have done exceedingly well in life. This shows their remarkable fighting spirit when it comes to dealing with their disability and succeeding despite all odds, which is celebration and triumph of human spirit. The need of the hour is to welcome them to join mainstream of life with more ramps and wheelchairs and Braille system at public places and public transport. Thanks to the SBI for having this inclusive approach.

Banking reforms needed
The interim report of the Bankruptcy Law Reform Committee (BLRC) exposes the inefficiency present in the administrative and legal system in India. The growing volume of NPAs of banks, especially of the PSU banks, is the most visible example of this. For the robustness and stability of the industrial and financial system, the Modi-led government must bring much needed reform. Legal procedures should be streamlined and judicial reforms needs to be expedited to tackle this problem plaguing the banking sector.
