Very soon, your mobile phone will become your primary identity document — even without internet. The government is preparing to formally launch the new Aadhaar App, which will allow users to verify their identity through a simple QR code, update details instantly, share complete or selective Aadhaar information, and store Aadhaar details of up to five family members. The app is already live, but the added features will be enabled before the formal rollout.

Your phone is your Aadhaar: Verification without internet

The upcoming Aadhaar App is designed to make identity verification completely paperless. One of its biggest features is offline verification, which means you can prove your identity even when your phone has no network.

At hotels, airports, events or society gates, you can simply show your Aadhaar QR code on the app, and the authorised person can scan it. What makes it more secure is that you decide what to share — complete details or only selective information.

In simple words, you will no longer need to carry a physical Aadhaar card. Your mobile phone becomes your Aadhaar.

UIDAI pushes for a strong offline Verification Ecosystem

To build awareness and strengthen the offline verification framework, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) recently conducted a webinar on “Offline Verification using the Aadhaar App”.
More than 250 organisations and participants joined the session to understand how the new Aadhaar App will transform identity verification across sectors.

UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar explained that offline verification offers a secure, quick, and privacy-protecting method of verifying identity while reducing dependence on physical Aadhaar copies — which can sometimes lead to misuse.

UIDAI officials gave a detailed presentation on what the app will deliver once formally launched. These include:

Ecosystem Partners Show Strong Interest

During the webinar, UIDAI officials took multiple live queries and encouraged organisations to onboard as Offline Verification Seeking Entities (OVSEs).
This includes hotels, event organisers, educational institutions, digital platforms, residential societies and many more.

The strong participation shows growing interest from industries that want faster, more secure identity verification systems.

UIDAI urged participants to stay tuned for more updates, as several new features are under development. Once all functionalities are activated, the government will formally launch the new Aadhaar App.
