New Aadhaar App: Carrying your Aadhaar card everywhere is now a thing of the past. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new Aadhaar app that allows users to keep their Aadhaar digitally on their smartphones with better privacy and control.
The app, available on both Android and iOS, offers enhanced security, easy access, and complete paperless convenience. Users can now securely share their Aadhaar via a QR code and even choose which personal details they wish to share. For instance, if only your name and photo are required, you can choose to hide other sensitive information like your address or date of birth.
In a post on social media platform ‘X’, formerly Twitter, the UIDAI said, “Experience a smarter way to carry your digital identity! The new Aadhaar App offers enhanced security, easy access, and a completely paperless experience — anytime, anywhere.”
User can lock unlock biometric data
The app also allows users to lock or unlock their biometric data, track where and when their Aadhaar has been used, and store Aadhaar cards of multiple family members in one place — making it a one-stop solution for digital identity management.
How to download new Aadhaar App
Setting up the app is simple. Users can download the ‘Aadhaar’ app from the Play Store or App Store, grant the necessary permissions, and enter their Aadhaar number. Once they verify their mobile number linked with Aadhaar, the app asks for a quick face authentication step to confirm identity. After setting a security PIN, the app is ready for use.
With this launch, UIDAI aims to make Aadhaar use more secure, flexible, and user-friendly — reducing the need for physical cards while giving people full control over their personal data.
Is name, DoB, mobile number update allowed online?
Various media reports claimed that the name, date of birth, and mobile number update would be allowed online in Aadhaar through the myAadhaar portal, effective November 1, 2025. But when we tried to find this new feature to update these details in Aadhaar post November 1, as claimed in reports, neither the UIDAI’s official website nor the myAadhaar portal showed this option. As of now, the Aadhaar update process remains the same — users can only update their address online, while all other changes still require a visit to an Aadhaar enrolment centre.
What the UIDAI website actually says
According to the UIDAI portal, only address updates can currently be done online. All other demographic details — such as name, date of birth/age, gender, mobile number, email address, relationship status, and information-sharing consent — still require an in-person visit to an Aadhaar enrolment centre.
“You cannot update your mobile number online. You must visit an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre in person. You can book an appointment online but will need to provide your current mobile number for the booking process.”
It further explains the online mode of update, “The online mode offers address update to the Aadhaar number holders where the Aadhaar number holder can directly place the address update request on the myAadhaar portal. The Aadhaar number holder needs to have mobile number registered with Aadhaar for using this service. The Aadhaar number is required to login to the portal by the Aadhaar number holder. The Aadhaar number holder is authenticated using sent OTP on his/her registered mobile number. To complete the update process, Aadhaar number holder needs to upload the supporting POA documents”.
