Indian equity benchmarks closed Friday’s trade on a higher note after the Reserve Bank of India cut the repo rate, key lending rate, by 25 bps to 5.25% from 5.5%. The Nifty 50 ended the day 153 points or 0.59% higher at 26,186, while the BSE Sensex surged almost 450 points or 0.52% to end at 85,712.
However, despite the push on the last day of the week, the benchmark indices closed the week on a lower note. The Nifty 50 was down 0.40% and the Sensex was down 0.3% over the past five trading sessions.
The Nifty Bank settled 488 points or 0.82% higher at 59,777. The mid-cap stocks also closed the trade on a higher note. The BSE Midcap finished 96 points or 0.21% lower at 46,617.80. However, the BSE Smallcap finished 345 points or 0.67% lower at 51,039.

The indices closed the trade on a lower note. During the session, out of 3,192 trading stocks, 1,335 advanced, while 1,769 declined, and 88 remained unchanged. Today, 36 stocks hit a fresh 52-week high. Meanwhile, 249 stocks touched a new 52-week low.
Top gainers
Shriram Finance was the top gainer in the Nifty 50 in Friday’s session, closing 3.4% higher. It was followed by SBI, Bajaj Finserv, Adani Enterprises, and Maruti Suzuki.
