Asian markets rose higher on the back of overnight gains in US markets and hopes of the Fed cutting interest rates.
Shares in Hong Kong gained as soon as markets opened, while those in mainland China were down. Meanwhile, equity benchmark indices in Japan and Australia climbed. Stocks in South Korea declined.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 was up 81 points or 0.20% at 41,356. The Korean index Kospi was down 0.19% at 2,861. The Asia Dow was trading 0.26% lower at 3,692.61. The benchmark Chinese index Shanghai Composite was trading 0.50% lower at 2,961.
While the stocks in Indian markets were not trading on July 17 on account of Muharram. Albeit, on July 16, Nifty and Sensex closed on a flat note. Nifty gained 26.30 points or 0.11% to settle the session at 24,613, while Sensex closed 51.69 points or 0.06% higher at 80,716.55. While, in the broader indices largecap and midcap stocks gained. However, Bank Nifty ended 59.10 points, or 0.11%, lower to close the day at 52,396.80.
