Indian stock market participants should note that there will be no trading on October 2, as both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) shall remain closed.

The market holiday is on account of Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra, as per the official holiday calendar released by the exchanges.

Money market and Commodities to stay shut

Trading across call money market, forex market and the MCX will also be shut on October 2.

Special Diwali Muhurat trading

While October starts with a holiday, it also brings the much-awaited Muhurat trading session on October 21. This symbolic one-hour trading window, held every year on Diwali, is considered highly auspicious by traders and investors.

This year, the Muhurat session will begin at 1:45 pm and end at 2:45 pm, with the cut-off for trade modifications set at 2:55 pm.

According to NSE, “All trades executed in this Diwali Muhurat trading session shall result in settlement obligations.”

More holidays in October

Apart from Gandhi Jayanti, markets will stay shut on October 21 for Diwali Laxmi Pujan and again on October 22 for Diwali Balipratipada. This means traders and investors will get three non-trading days in October, besides weekends.

The multi-commodity exchange (MCX) and currency derivatives segments will also observe these holiday closures.

Stock market holidays left in 2025

As per NSE’s 2025 calendar, there are a few more breaks lined up after October. Trading will remain closed on November 5 for Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev Jayanti and on December 25 for Christmas.
