While Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in his briefing said that it is likely that lockdown will be lifted on April 26 and may not extend, people concerned about their alcohol stock have rushed to the liquor stores. Even last year when the nationwide lockdown was lifted and liquor shops resumed operations after a 40-day hiatus, people stood in queues for multiple hours in a day to stock liquor. This time too, as the lockdown will come into effect from tonight 10 pm, people have gathered in front of liquor stores and violation of social distancing can be seen.

Despite the announcement stating that essential services will remain open, people were also seen outside retail stores to stock food and other essentials. People also queued in front of Kendriya Bandar as they were afraid they may not get essential products later on.

To be sure, the Delhi government has imposed a week-long lockdown in the national capital in order to curb the transmission of Coronavirus, and to make sure that the hospitals in the city are managed and have sufficient beds, oxygen for treatment of people.
