Microsoft does not want to leave the smartphone segment at all even after catastrophic trials to get into the business. At a hardware developers conference in China, Microsoft said that a complete Windows 10 experience along with ARM processors made by Qualcomm will be coming to smartphones soon. The ARM-based processor is present in almost all the smartphones in the world, but this will be the first time it will run the full-fledged Windows device. Microsoft had earlier made many smartphone-specific Windows OS, but now processors from Qualcomm will make it easier to support programs from Windows like MS Office, Edge browser, Games, and various other third-party software.

According to Qualcomm the smartphones with Windows 10 and Snapdragon processors will come out in the later part of 2017. The company also said that the latest processor, the Snapdragon 835 will come very soon in 2017. Qualcomm had also recently announced that it is testing its new 10-nanometer ARM-based processors with 48 cores. This is interesting because, with the popularity of Qualcomm among Android devices, an entry into Windows added to the capability to power PCs might end the monopoly of Intel. As computing is getting more mobile than ever, newer innovations by the likes of Qualcomm Technologies are making it easier for people to always keep connected.

In a statement Terry Myerson, executive vice president of the Windows and Devices Group at Microsoft, said, “We are excited to bring Windows 10 to the ARM ecosystem with our partner, Qualcomm. We continue to look for ways to empower our customers to create wherever they are. Bringing Windows 10 to life with a range of thin, light, power-efficient and always-connected devices, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon platform, is the next step in delivering the innovations our customers love — touch, pen, Windows Hello, and more — anytime, anywhere.”

After the flawed acquisition of Nokia by Microsoft, which was worth $7 billion, the company seems to be finally over it and making interesting things which are evident after CEO Satya Nadella informed people at Microsoft’s investor conference about the company’s dreams about making smartphones. And this almost a start from scratch as Windows smartphone market share currently is almost negligible.
