The Honor series has been expanded to accommodate the 4G phones when Huawei is trying to make a comeback in the market. Their most recent release, the Honor 4X, will aid the Chinese device maker to get a more solid footing in the Indian market where it has approximately 4.8% share in the smartphones category. Let us take a closer look under the hood.
Design: The phone is as large as any 4G phone out in the market but it feels lighter than most. It has a plastic back panel with the logo on it but the grip feels good and not slippery. While the power and the volume rocker keys are at the right side of the phone, the charging port is at the bottom which also serves as a USB port. The front panel houses the front camera and three keys near the bottom of the phone right where the display panel ends. The phone is 7.9 mm thick and has two SIM slots in the back along the memory card slot.

Camera: The phone has two cameras—13 MP camera with LED flash at the back and a 5 MP camera at the front. The front camera is good enough for taking decent selfies. It also supports common features like the beauty face mode. The back camera is really powerful and is capable of taking pictures at different light conditions. The camera also boasts of a Sony/OV high-sensitivity image sensor and the full focus camera algorithm that aids taking better quality Panoroma-mode photos. Consumers can take pictures with gestures and it can also identify smiles.
Display and battery: The phone sports a 5.5-inch screen with an IPS panel display technology supported with a 1280 x 720 HD resolution combining 16.7 million colours. The visual display was not so great when it came to games as the maximum fps generated was 16.
Hardware, performance and gaming: The 4X at its engine runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 CPU with 64 bits Quad-core and A53 architecture. This processor was built with a design to consume ultra-low-power and extend battery life. As its fuel, a 2 GB RAM supports the 4X’s engine which gives decent support while playing simple games. The display department is supported by an Adreno 306.
Software and storage: The 4X runs EMUI3.0—a Huawei developed UI design on the Android. The phone comes with Android 4.4.4 out of the box. The UI also supports one-hand UI what Honor terms as the lazy mode. The FM Radio option is also available. The phone comes with a 8GB internal storage out of which 4GB is usable.
Connectivity, Audio and other features: Apart from being a 4G device, the phone has a Wi-Fi and a Bluetooth module. There is no NFC available. The Honor boasted of an explosive audio feature but it did not live up to the expectations.Other features include a gravity sensor, light sensor, proximity sensor.
Verdict: The phone is light and the build quality seems fine. But having said that, the phone will face stiff competition in its segment.
