In a bid to make video calls more engaging, Mark Zuckerberg has announced exciting new features for WhatsApp: customisable filters and backgrounds. This latest update aims to bring a splash of personality to your virtual conversations, following the recent launch of voice chat mode and image editing for Meta AI.
WhatsApp users can now enhance their video calls with a range of facial filters and interactive backgrounds. Whether you want to lighten the mood with a playful filter or create a serene setting with a stunning backdrop, these features are designed to make your conversations more vibrant and enjoyable.
Users can choose from ten unique filters, including options like “Warm,” “Cool,” and “Vintage TV.” Imagine chatting with friends while sporting a retro filter reminiscent of your favourite classic sitcom! With a variety of default backgrounds, you can transport yourself anywhere – from a sunny beach sunset to a bustling city skyline. This feature is perfect for those unexpected video calls when you want to look professional or just have a bit of fun. These additional features help users look their best. The Touch Up tool naturally smooths your appearance, while the Low Light option brightens dark environments, ensuring that your calls remain clear and bright. Imagine you’re catching up with family while on vacation. Instead of showing them your hotel room, you can set a stunning tropical background to match the atmosphere. Or picture a virtual team meeting where you can use the “Professional” filter to ensure you look polished and ready for business, all while sitting in your comfy pajamas.
How it works
To access these new features during a video call, simply tap the effects icon located in the top right corner of the screen. This user-friendly interface makes it easy to switch between filters and backgrounds on the fly, allowing for seamless personalization throughout your call.
Currently, these features are rolling out to a select group of users who have updated their WhatsApp app to the latest version available on the App Store and Google Play Store. If you haven’t received access yet, don’t worry. The rollout will continue over the coming weeks, so keep your app updated.
