YouTube has partnered with the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). This collaboration is aimed at providing access to educational materials for students in India.
The organisation will work with the Alphabet-owned video streaming platform to roll out new channels. These channels will provide users access to content made for students from grade 1 to grade 12. Let’s have a detailed look at what the partnership can bring.
YouTube collaborates with the NCERT
Google said that these new channels are being developed by the NCERT. Also the channels will be available in 29 Indian languages. However, YouTube is yet to provide any list of these languages.
Apart from providing study materials, Google and NCERT will also include support for Indian Sign Language for Improved Accessibility. This means that the content will also be available in Indian Sign Language. This can eventually make the content more accessible to students having any kind of disabilities.
Furthermore, the social media platform has partnered with the NPTEL to introduce 50 credentialed courses in the country. The NPTEL’s courses will include different subjects. This could include pure sciences, literature, sports psychology and even rocket propulsion. Currently, all these courses will be available to all users. You can get these channels in the NPTEL’s channels on YouTube.
The roadmap ahead
Looking ahead, the company says that the channels will be available in India “over the coming months”. In addition to partnering with NCERT, YouTube will also work with the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL). The plan is to provide access to credentialed courses, with the option to receive an IIT certification.
YouTube also claimed that after viewing these courses, viewers can also complete an online certification. This certification will then help them to get a certification from the IITs. This will be available through the NPTEL-SWAYAM website. Notably, the website is operated by the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the NPTEL.
