Elon Musk now wants to take on Twitch or YouTube with X Video Game Streaming, formerly called Twitter. It could be Musk’s next step into turning X into an everything app, as he hinted last year in October that, “Buying Twitter is an accelerant to creating X, the everything app”.
If you’re confused about what everything app means, it would be something similar to China’s WeChat with functionalities of all social media platforms, payments, video streaming and more—in one app.

In the latest development, X is experimenting with a game streaming feature similar to Twitch. It is still in its early phase lacks many creator-friendly features, and is currently accessible only to X Premium subscribers.
Musk showcased the new game streaming feature in a 54-minute Diablo IV stream on X via an anonymous account. The live stream is titled, “Just a quick test of X video game streaming”.

Later, an X engineer, Mark Kalman, explained how Premium subscribers can set up game streaming via OBS and X Media Studio. It’s unclear how serious X is about supporting streamers, as it currently lacks some creator-centric features. X is focusing on attracting creators and expanding its video features.
Additionally, the social media company plans to experiment with live shopping in partnership with Paris Hilton. However, X’s infrastructure may struggle to handle new live video features due to past reliability issues.
Just last week when Elon Musk visited the US-Mexico border and lauded support for citizen journalism, he livestreamed the visit, however, the livestream came to a halt after merely 4 minutes. He, then, emailed all X’s staff, “Please fix this,” reported New York Times reporter Ryan Mac.
