WhatsApp has launched a new feature update to let users hide their locked chats behind a password. The feature is called secret code. It serves as an additional layer of security protecting your private chats from prying eyes.
The secret code feature update for WhatsApp is available for users at the time of writing though the instant messaging platform notes that it might not be available to everyone at the same time. The global rollout is set for coming months.

A secret code is essentially a password you can use to hide your locked chats, now completely from the chat list. It can be different from your device’s existing password.

Setting up your secret code is similar to locking your chat. Only difference is while there you use your device’s existing biometric, here you can put up a different password. You can now hide your locked chat from the chat list as well.

When enabled, you can simply type your password in WhatsApp’s search bar for access, that is if you’ve chosen to hide your locked chat folder.

It is also possible to lock a chat directly from the chat list now. You can do it by simply long pressing. Previously you had to go inside the individual chat’s setting to lock it.
