WhatsApp has rolled out a major update for its Android app, bringing a host of new features designed to enhance user control and flexibility within community group chats. The new version, 2.24.18.80, is now available on the Google Play Store and includes the highly anticipated community ownership transfer feature, along with improvements to chat management, reported by WhatsApp news tracker WaBetaInfo.
The new updates allow community owners to transfer ownership of their community to another admin. This feature allows the current owner to designate any admin within the community as the new owner, who will then get full admin rights. These include major responsibilities such as managing community settings, making decisions about community structure, and even demoting other admins if necessary. This streamlined transfer process is designed to be completed easily through the community settings, ensuring a smooth transition of responsibilities.
In addition to the ownership transfer functionality, WhatsApp has introduced a new option to archive community group chats directly from the Chats tab. Previously, users could only archive these chats from the Communities tab. This update makes it more convenient to manage chat visibility and organisation without having to navigate through multiple tabs.
Another significant enhancement included in this update is the improved management of community group chat visibility. Admins now have the capability to hide specific group chats from general community members, which can help in creating more focused discussions and maintaining privacy within the community.
The update also brings some improvements to the app’s performance and user experience. However, as these new features are being rolled out gradually, not all users may have access to them immediately.
