Vodafone Idea (Vi) is stepping up its game to retain subscribers and attract new ones with its latest “Superhero” prepaid plans. Amidst increasing competition and declining revenue market share, Vi has revamped 19 prepaid plans to include unlimited data benefits, aiming to lure users back from rivals Jio and Airtel.
Vi Superhero prepaid plans: Benefits
The Superhero plans bring unlimited data benefits from 12 AM to 12 PM daily, catering to night owls, early risers, and productivity-driven users. Vodafone Idea says the benefits should particularly appeal to data-savvy youth and women.
Additionally, users can roll over unused weekday data to weekends with the Weekend Data Rollover feature, offering more flexibility. Subscribers can also enjoy 2GB of free backup data every month via the Vi app.

A fight against declining market share
Vi’s aggressive push comes at a critical time. The company’s revenue market share fell to a historic low of 14.5 percent during Q2 FY24, down from 15 percent in the previous quarter, as per TRAI data. Rivals Jio and Airtel dominate with shares of 42% and 39%, respectively. Vi’s struggles stem from underwhelming investments in network infrastructure, causing millions of users to switch to competitors.
Despite losing 5 million subscribers last quarter, Vi’s tariff hikes contributed to its fourth consecutive quarter of revenue growth. However, CEO Akshaya Moondra admitted that recent investments have yet to stop subscriber losses significantly.
Vi’s Superhero plans aim to bridge the gap between affordability and user satisfaction. By offering unlimited data for half a day and data rollover benefits, Vi is targeting digital-savvy customers to regain its footing in the fiercely competitive telecom market.
