Twitter will be adding Grok AI, Elon Musk’s AI chatbot to summarise the personalised trending stories in Twitter’s Explore section. It is believed that after Instagram introduces its new ‘Reveal’ feature, Twitter also aims to add AI on its platform through its new feature ‘Stories.’
On Friday, it was announced that X’s Premium subscribers will be able to read a summary of posts on X associated with each trending story featured on the For You tab in Explore, as per an announcement and screenshots posted by the X Engineering team.
How will Grok AI summarise news?
On May 4 “ Now available: Stories on X, powered by Grok AI. See what the world is talking about with Stories on X, curated by @grok. now available for Premium subscribers in the Explore tab! web and iOS only for now– let us know your feedback,” X Engineering tweeted.
With Grok AI, Twitter itself would add on some of its daily trends with extra information and pin a representative tweet to provide further context. However, Twitter’s rollout was haphazard, with some trends getting written up and others not. With Grok’s ‘Stories’ it is believed that all the top news on the For You page will be summarised for you.
Why is Grok AI better?
Critics argue that it’s not new, when it comes to ‘summarising news’. Early incidents of some news publishers collaborating with AI providers such as OpenAI’s recently announced partnership with the FT. Additionally other news channels such as Axel Springer, the AP, and Le Monde, have also announced the same initiatives as Twitter.
But what makes Twitter’s collaboration with Grok AI better? Access to xAI’s chatbot Grok has the potential to push users to buy premium subscriptions. Users having Premium and top-tier Premium+ plans, will be allowed to get access to Grok by tapping on the bottom middle button of the app. “A snarky and “rebellious” AI, Grok’s differentiator from other AI chatbots like ChatGPT is its exclusive and real-time access to X data,” TechCrunch concluded.
