The microblogging platform formerly known as Twitter has officially become X.com, Elon Musk announced today. “All core systems are now ok X.com,” Musk said. This means that now when you type twitter.com in your browser, you should be redirected to X.com— Elon Musk’s preferred domain.
A notification at the bottom of the X login page now mentions, “We are letting you know that we are changing our URL, but your privacy and data protection settings remain the same.”
This domain transition is part of Elon Musk’s overall rebranding effort. But it hasn’t been a straight-forward process as one would imagine from the sidelines. While many parts of the platform, such as its official account, mobile apps, and “X Premium” (formerly Twitter/X Blue) subscriptions, had already adopted the new X branding, the URLs continued to use twitter.com.
The rebranding to X marks a significant shift, reflecting Musk’s overall long-term vision for the platform which is to convert it into an “everything app”. Despite the URL changes, users can expect their privacy and data protection settings to remain unchanged, ensuring a smooth transition without compromising security, X noted.
This change is part of a broader effort to unify the platform’s identity under the X brand, aiming to create a cohesive and streamlined user experience. The move to X.com is a critical step in solidifying the new brand identity, emphasising Musk’s goal—and commitment—to transforming the social network. As the transition progresses, users will likely see further updates and refinements to fully integrate the X branding across all aspects of the platform.
