A new Apple launch event is on the horizon, CEO Tim Cook has revealed. Cook took to X, the platform previously known as Twitter, to tease “the newest member of the family” which is launching—globally—on February 19, 2025. All signs point to it being the fourth generation iPhone SE, or iPhone SE 4, or iPhone 16E.
Whatever Apple decides to call it, the one thing that’s sure to stay constant is that it would be the most affordable “modern-day” smartphone that it makes today. The new iPhone SE, short for special edition, has been a long time coming. The current version dates back to 2022 and is the only iPhone in Apple’s extensive line-up to have yesteryear technology like a Home Button with Touch ID and Lightning connectivity.
The 2025 refresh is likely to bring a 360-degree change to the format from size and build to power and performance, making it more relevant—and possibly great value—for the times. It was initially pegged to launch on February 11, per reports, but then it did not show up. Instead, Apple gave us the Powerbeats Pro 2, its first high-end earphones with heart rate monitoring, on that day. Having said that, the iPhone SE 4 was still “reported” to launch in the “coming days”, per trusted Bloomberg reporter, Mark Gurman—and that is what’s likely happening now.
Gurman has “foretold” that the iPhone SE in 2025 will come with an iPhone 14-like design—though only with a single camera on the back—and the A18 processor which would bring support for Apple Intelligence. Keeping that parametre in mind, it’s safe to assume that it would also come with more RAM, 8GB versus 3GB on the iPhone SE 3, while base storage could see a bump to 128GB from 64GB. The single camera on the back is expected to be a 48-megapixel. The new iPhone SE 4 is also widely speculated to have an Action Button and Face ID biometrics. USB Type-C charging is a given at this point. Watch this space for more updates.
