Telegram has launched a major and much-needed feature for the start of 2025, marking a crucial step in improving platform transparency and security with third-party verification. This new feature allows official organisations and public figures to be verified by external services, adding an extra layer of credibility. This is similar to how we see on Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, or Instagram. The verification icon will appear next to the user’s name allowing users to quickly distinguish official entities and improve safety across the platform.
This verification system is separate from Telegram’s existing verification checkmarks for public figures and organisations, helping to ensure that users can access reliable sources of information without the threat of fake accounts.
Collectible Gifts
Another major addition to Telegram is the introduction of collectible gifts. Now, when you receive a gift, you can upgrade it to a unique collectible with various custom attributes. These collectible gifts, which include familiar items like the Homemade Cake and Santa Hat, come with personalised appearances and can be traded, sold, or auctioned on NFT marketplaces.
Enhanced interactivity
Alongside third-party verification, Telegram has also introduced reactions for service messages, allowing users to quickly react to activities such as group joins, video chats, and gift exchanges. This addition makes interactions more engaging and provides instant feedback with just a tap.
Improved message search and QR Code scanner
The update also brings enhanced message search filters, allowing users to easily refine search results across private chats, groups, or channels. Additionally, a new QR code scanner is now integrated into Telegram’s camera, making it quicker to access links directly from the app.
Telegram reaches profitability with premium subscriptions
In addition to these new features, Telegram announced that it reached profitability in 2024, driven by its Premium subscriptions, privacy-conscious ads, and Telegram Stars.
