Google brought major changes in its teams by appointing Prabhakar Raghavan as the company’s Chief Technologist. Earlier Raghavan had been leading Google’s search and advertising section, along with other major divisions.
On October 17, Thursday Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai in a message to employees announced the new role changes. In the official announcement Sunder Pichai, said that Raghavan will be moving into the role of chief technologist after 12 years of leading other teams across the search company.
A major shift!
The appointment of Raghavan as a Chief Technologist can make a major impact in the company. Pichai says that working closely with Raghavan can contribute in shaping the company’s technical goals and improve Google’s culture of ‘technological excellence’. He further said that after leading a steady route for 12 years, Prabhakar finally took a big leap in his career.
So, who is the new Google Search and Assistant head now? Now this team will be headed by Nick Fox. In addition to being the ad head, he will also lead Google’s ads, commerce,Search and geo divisions. Earlier, Fox had a role in launching products such RCS messaging and Google Fi.
When it comes to bringing innovation in technology , Google aims to stay at the forefront. In this technology driven era, artificial intelligence (AI) plays an important role. Pichai claims that working with Raghavan can create a better AI platform and bring more AI tools in-house. Looks like Pichai has high hopes for his not so new,yet new team member.

This is the second time when another Indian got a major role in Google. Pichai said that Raghavan’s roots always belonged to computer science. With the new role, he will finally get back to what he had always loved.
Furthermore, Pichai also announced that the team working on Google’s Gemini app, which includes Google’s AI direct-to-consumer products, will join Google DeepMind. This team will be headed by Demis Hassabis.In addition to this the Google Assistant team will be merged as a part of the company’s devices and platforms division.
