Samsung is about to unveil its latest clamshell foldable, the Galaxy Z Flip 7, at a highly anticipated event in New York City on July 9. As the launch date draws near, details emerging from various leaks and industry sources paint a comprehensive picture of what consumers can expect from this next-generation flip phone. Compared to its predecessor, the Flip 7 seems to promise significant upgrades, particularly in display size and battery longevity.
With the iPhone 17 rumoured to arrive in September, Samsung’s upcoming Flip 7 promises a fresh new alternative, infused with smarter AI features and more versatility with the flip phone form factor. Should you be waiting for Samsung’s Flip phone or consider extending your wait for the more conventional iPhone 17?
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 rumoured features at a glance
Although Samsung is yet to reveal the actual features and specifications of the Flip 7 and the Flip 7 FE, the leaks and rumours have revealed almost everything there is to know about these phones, including the design.
A larger cover screen
One of the most eye-catching enhancements on the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is its substantially larger cover screen. Following the Galaxy Z Flip 5’s introduction of a more usable external ‘folder-shaped’ display, the Flip 7 is rumored to feature a cover screen spanning the entire front of the device, elegantly wrapping around the camera lenses — a design reminiscent of the Motorola Razr 60 Ultra.
Leaks suggest this new cover screen will measure between 4 to 4.1 inches, a notable increase from the 3.4-inch panels on its predecessors. This larger panel is also expected to boast a 120Hz refresh rate, promising smoother interactions. While full app support might still be limited to Samsung’s Good Lock app, the expanded space around the cameras could be intelligently utilised for One UI’s Now Bar, offering glanceable live activities, notifications, and media controls.
The main foldable screen is expected to maintain its 6.9-inch size with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 2,600 nits. In terms of design, the Flip 7 is rumored to be Samsung’s thinnest clamshell foldable yet, with reported thicknesses of 13.7mm when folded and 6.5mm when unfolded—even thinner than the Flip 6. It will also introduce appealing new color options, including Coral Red and Blue Shadow, alongside the classic Jet Black.
Performance

Unlike its predecessors relying on Qualcomm power, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is poised to be the first Samsung foldable to be powered by an Exynos chip globally. The device is expected to integrate the new Exynos 2500 chipset – the equivalent of the Snapdragon 8 Elite. While its performance will be closely scrutinised, analysts suggest that the Exynos chip here could benefit from the Flip phone’s form factor – it could have superior heat management.
The phone is also anticipated to come with 12GB of RAM as standard, with storage options likely including 256GB and 512GB variants. Connectivity features will be robust, featuring 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and a USB 3.2 Type-C port. The addition of satellite messaging support, thanks to the Exynos 2500, is also a highly anticipated feature.
The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is likely to launch with One UI 7 (Android 15) out of the box, incorporating all the popular Galaxy AI features. Similar to the Galaxy S25 series, Samsung is likely to commit to seven major OS upgrades and seven years of security updates for the device, ensuring long-term software support.
For many, the most compelling upgrade might be the battery. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is reportedly confirmed to pack a 4,300 mAh battery, a substantial increase from the Flip 6’s smaller 4,000 mAh. While charging speeds will remain at 25W, the larger battery along with the new Exynos chipset, should guarantee an all-day battery life.
Cameras
The camera setup is expected to largely mirror its predecessor, featuring a 50MP primary camera and a 12MP ultrawide sensor on the outside. A 10MP front-facing camera is expected to take care of selfies and video calls. Galaxy AI-powered editing tools, including the object eraser, will also enhance post-capture capabilities.
Expected launch and pricing:
Samsung is expected to keep the prices unchanged from the outgoing generation. Hence, there is a possibility that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 could start from Rs 1.10 lakh, thus allowing Samsung to give breathing space to the rumoured Flip 7 FE – a more affordable alternative that will be based on the outgoing Galaxy Z Flip 6 with a less capable Exynos 2400e chip.
It’s important to note that these are expected or rumored prices, and the official pricing will be confirmed by Samsung at its Unpacked event on July 9, 2025.
