Samsung dominates the foldable phone segment with its two variations of the Galaxy Z series. Hence, when it came to doing a tri-fold phone, i.e., a phone that folds twice to offer three segments of screen, we knew that Samsung would take its sweet time designing the same. Rumours of Samsung’s first tri-fold phone are doing the rounds on the internet, and with Huawei already in the lead, Samsung’s first attempt had to work.
Courtesy of a new leak now, it seems that any mere mortal would need to pay a fortune for owning Samsung’s first tri-fold smartphone. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is already an expensive phone, but for the tri-fold, it seems that Samsung wants to charge an exorbitant price. Moreover, the phone won’t be coming to every market, unlike the original Galaxy Fold.
Samsung tri-fold prices leaked?
The tip, which comes from Yogesh Brar – a popular tipster, suggests that Samsung’s tri-fold phone will be the most expensive phone it has ever made. The phone’s starting price could be in the range of $3,000 to $3,500 (approximately under Rs 3 lakhs), which puts it on par with some expensive gaming laptops.
While the price seems unpalatable for a smartphone, the tri-fold technology is new to the handset industry. The Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design is so far the only phone in this form factor and, safe to say, it has a complex construction. Samsung’s implementation is expected to be slightly different from Huawei’s and the company’s years of expertise is expected to make the Samsung tri-fold more durable.
Not launching everywhere
Other than the astronomical price tag, another aspect that suggests the experimental nature of the Samsung tri-fold is its limited availability. The tri-fold is rumoured to be sold only in South Korea and China, that too in limited quantities.
With all that in place, it seems evident that Samsung wants to play it extremely safe with the tri-fold phone, unlike in the past. Samsung’s big global launch of the Galaxy Fold had been met with a lot of criticism over defective screen guards and other reliability concerns. For the tri-fold, Samsung wants to retrain it to markets that understand the fragility of these products.
Samsung tri-fold phone expected launch date
The Samsung tri-fold phone is expected to break cover in Q3 2025, thus hinting at a launch at the next Galaxy Unpacked event. Hence, the tri-fold phone could share the stage with the next-gen Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7, probably as a “One more thing” announcement.
