Xiaomi’s Redmi brand has kicked off the year’s smartphone launches with the official launch of the Redmi Note 15 5G in India. It succeeds the popular Redmi Note 14 5G and introduces notable upgrades in camera, display quality, build durability, and long-term software support, all while maintaining aggressive pricing in the competitive mid-range segment. At the front, the Redmi Note 15 5G sports a 6.77-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,392 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen reaches a claimed peak brightness of 3,200 nits. The display protection comes from Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, adding durability against scratches and minor drops. Audio is handled by dual stereo speakers supporting Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res Audio.
Under the hood, the phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset, which Xiaomi claims offers over 30% improvement in multitasking speed compared to the previous generation. It is paired with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and storage options of 128GB or 256GB (UFS 2.2), with support for microSD card expansion for additional space.
On the software side, the Redmi Note 15 5G runs HyperOS 2 based on Android 15 out of the box. Xiaomi has committed to an update policy of four years of major OS upgrades and six years of security patches. An upcoming OTA update will bring HyperOS 3, based on Android 16, in the upcoming months. Connectivity options include 5G support, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port.
The standout feature is the dual rear camera setup, led by a 108MP primary sensor that supports optical image stabilisation (OIS) and 4K video recording at 30fps. It is accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens for broader shots. On the front, a 20MP selfie camera handles portraits and video calls, recording up to 1080p at 30fps. Powering the device is a 5,520mAh battery, which promises to last a full day or more with moderate use. It supports 45W fast charging for quick top-ups and 18W reverse charging, allowing the phone to act as a power bank for other devices.
