Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, X2 Elite Extreme chipsets will power 2026 flagship phones, PCs

Qualcomm’s next-generation mobile chipsets are here, and as usual, there are some serious gains promised with these new-age chipsets. Revealed to the Indian crowd at the Snapdragon Summit Global Highlights Meet in Goa, the new chipsets promise to take mobile computing a notch above. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip succeeds the Snapdragon 8 Elite from last year, taking care of smartphones and tablets. The Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme and X2 Elite chips, on the other hand, will take care of ARM-based Windows PCs.

The new chips will power a bunch of popular mobile devices starting as early as November 2025, with some of the top devices expected to bear the logos of Samsung, OnePlus, HP, Asus and others. 

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5: The flagship chip for Android 

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is designed with the 3rd Gen Qualcomm Oryon CPU, which promises a 20% performance boost, and a new Qualcomm Adreno GPU architecture, enhancing graphics-intensive gaming by 23%. Its Qualcomm Hexagon NPU promises 37% faster performance, allowing for personalised agentic AI assistants and a platform to record in Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec. 

Flagship devices from leading global OEMs and smartphone brands, which include Honor, iQOO, Nubia, OnePlus, Oppo, Poco, Realme, Redmi, RedMagic, ROG, Samsung, Sony, Vivo, Xiaomi, and ZTE, are expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 mobile platform. 

Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme, X2 Elite chips

In the PC segment, the Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme is designed for ultra-premium Windows 11 PCs. The chipset promises to tackle modern complex workloads such as agentic AI experiences, data analytics, and professional media editing. It features the 3rd Gen Qualcomm Oryon CPU, promising up to 75% faster CPU performance than competitors at ISO power. 

The Snapdragon X2 Elite is aimed at premium PCs to drive powerful and efficient multitasking with up to 31% faster performance at ISO power and requires up to 43% less power than its predecessor. Both Snapdragon X2 Elite series platforms feature an 80 TOPS NPU, making it the world’s fastest NPU for laptops, which can handle Copilot+ and other AI experiences. Devices powered by Snapdragon X2 Elite are anticipated to be available in the first half of 2026.
