Qualcomm has introduced its latest lineup of mobile processors, bringing significant improvements over the previous generation. Unveiled at the Snapdragon Summit Global Highlights in Goa, these advanced chipsets aim to push the boundaries of mobile performance. Leading the charge is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, which builds on last year’s Snapdragon 8 Elite and is designed to power premium smartphones and tablets.

Christopher Patrick, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Qualcomm’s Handset division, explained that the new platform is focused on enhancing the overall user experience. According to him, users can look forward to quicker multitasking, seamless app transitions, and better battery efficiency due to smarter power optimization. Patrick emphasized that Qualcomm envisions Snapdragon as a versatile solution that delivers top-notch performance for all types of users.

Patrick also expressed confidence that smart glasses will become as mainstream and impactful as smartwatches in the near future. He noted that the technology holds enormous potential, with the only real challenge being to reduce costs and make it accessible to a wider audience.

He further highlighted the growing role of AI in everyday life, describing it not only as a powerful driver of productivity but also as a dynamic source of entertainment. According to him, these capabilities have the potential to transform how people work, create, and engage with technology, making AI one of the most impactful tools of the modern era.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5: Qualcomm’s New Flagship for Android

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 arrives with major performance upgrades, powered by the 3rd-generation Qualcomm Oryon CPU that delivers a 20% jump in speed. Alongside, the redesigned Qualcomm Adreno GPU architecture boosts graphics performance by 23%, enabling smoother, more immersive gaming. Its upgraded Qualcomm Hexagon NPU offers a 37% leap in AI performance, supporting next-generation features like personalized on-device AI assistants and the ability to capture content in Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec.

A wide range of global smartphone makers—including Honor, iQOO, Nubia, OnePlus, Oppo, Poco, Realme, Redmi, RedMagic, ROG, Samsung, Sony, Vivo, Xiaomi, and ZTE—are expected to equip their upcoming flagship models with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform.

Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme and X2 Elite: Redefining Windows PCs

For laptops, Qualcomm is bringing the Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme to the forefront, targeting the ultra-premium Windows 11 PC segment. This processor is engineered to handle demanding workloads such as agentic AI applications, heavy data analytics, and professional-grade content creation. Built on the 3rd-gen Qualcomm Oryon CPU, it promises up to 75% better CPU performance compared to rival chips at the same power levels.

The Snapdragon X2 Elite, meanwhile, is crafted for premium notebooks, delivering efficient multitasking with up to 31% faster performance at equal power consumption while requiring up to 43% less energy than its predecessor. Both the Extreme and Elite models are equipped with an 80 TOPS NPU, setting a new benchmark as the fastest neural processing unit for laptops, optimized to support Microsoft Copilot+ and other advanced AI features. Devices powered by the Snapdragon X2 Elite family are expected to hit the market in the first half of 2026.
