Turns out Poco will launch the world’s— and presumably India’s— first smartphone with Xiaomi’s HyperOS software right out of the gate. Poco’s global wing has confirmed on X, the platform previously known as Twitter, that the Poco X6 Pro will be powered by HyperOS ahead of its international unveiling on January 11. The phone is launching in India on the same day and so, it’s safe to assume that the India-bound model will get it, too.
The Redmi K70E which is largely expected to be rebranded as the Poco X6 Pro for global markets, India included, ships with HyperOS in Xiaomi’s home market and so the news hardly comes as a surprise if you’re keeping track. If anything, it makes the Redmi Note 13 series look bad on launch day. Xiaomi did confirm the line-up is HyperOS-ready but there is no word on when it’s coming. And so, as things stand, the Redmi Note 13, Note 13 Pro, and Note 13 Pro Plus will be stuck with Android 13 for the unforeseeable future.
Poco is also leading the update proceedings with the Poco F5 getting HyperOS before any other Xiaomi/Redmi phone. In India, the update will start to kick-off with the Xiaomi 13 Pro and Xiaomi Pad 6 and eventually, more devices should be added to the list.
As for the Poco X6 Pro itself, the phone is shaping to be quite an exciting package. Obviously, performance will be at its core and Poco has confirmed that it will come powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8300-Ultra chip but if its hardware set is anything like the Redmi K70E’s, we can expect fireworks in the market in the coming days. A vanilla Poco X6 is also launching alongside. That phone is tipped to be based on the Redmi Note 13 Pro. Stay tuned for more updates.
