ChatGPT has revolutionised the world ever since it was released to the public. The generative AI chatbot has not only proven itself to be a helpful personal assistant but also proven its worth in commercial spaces. While recent sentiments surrounding ChatGPT and other AI bots may not be positive due to the massive job losses in the industry, OpenAI continues its pursuit to improve with a new tool that could change the way you look for jobs.
After focusing on ChatGPT and web search tools, OpenAI is now going after the segment dominated by LinkedIn – the job search market. With the upcoming launch of its OpenAI Jobs Platform, the Sam Altman-led AI firm wants to utilise the advanced AI capabilities of its GPT models to make it easy for job seekers to find the right job for them. OpenAI wants to simplify and improve the hiring process for both sides.
OpenAI to use AI for job hunting
The initiative is led by Fidji Simo, the CEO of Applications at OpenAI. According to her, the goal of the new platform is to help people adapt to the rapidly changing job landscape, in which OpenAI is a key factor. The new job platform will help by connecting job seekers and applicants with companies that are in need of their specific skills. The platform is slated for an official launch by mid-2026.
This move is part of OpenAI’s broader expansion strategy, which includes exploring other applications like a new web browser and a social networking app.
The entry of OpenAI into the job market is particularly interesting as it puts the company in direct competition with LinkedIn, a Microsoft-owned company. Interestingly, Microsoft is also a major investor in OpenAI. This new venture comes at a time when there are growing concerns about how AI will affect employment.
OpenAI Academy also in the pipeline
The company is also working on a separate but related project called the OpenAI Academy. This academy will offer certifications to measure a worker’s AI fluency, a crucial skill in the evolving job market. A pilot program for this academy is expected to begin in late 2025 in collaboration with retail giant Walmart, with a long-term vision of certifying 10 million Americans by 2030.
These efforts are part of OpenAI’s contribution to the White House’s AI literacy program.
