OnePlus launches new 8GB/256GB 12R variant even as its India TV business future becomes increasingly ‘uncertain’

OnePlus has silently removed all evidence that it ever sold TVs (and very recently monitors) in the country on its official website.

Better sense has finally prevailed. OnePlus has launched a new 8GB/256GB variant of its mid-segment flagship phone OnePlus 12R. So far, it came in either 8GB/128GB and 16GB/256GB memory trims with the former priced at Rs 39,999 and the latter at Rs 45,999.

The Rs 6,000 difference got particularly stingier after it was revealed that there was not much incentive to invest more since the 16GB/256GB model also comes with UFS3.1 storage type (not UFS4.0 as initially advertised).

Having an 8GB/256GB option— now— not only makes the 12R a bit easier on the pocket, but it should also help restore some faith in the brand (at a time when it’s also suffering a double whammy of sorts what with its TV business in India seemingly coming to a close), or at least that is what it would be hoping for.

The announcement also means that the 12R gets a bit more competitive against the iQOO Neo 9 Pro, a phone that’s generating rave reviews for specs at par with the OnePlus but at a lower price.

The OnePlus 12R now comes in a choice of 8GB/128GB, 8GB/256GB, and 16GB/256GB for Rs 39,999, Rs 42,999, and Rs 45,999, respectively. (There is also a OnePlus 12R Genshin Impact Edition that sells for Rs 49,999.) The new variant goes on sale starting from today, March 21.

While at it, OnePlus has silently removed all evidence that it ever sold TVs (and very recently monitors) in the country on its official website. The TV and monitor sections have been removed, hinting at a possible exit from the market. Reports that OnePlus was shutting down its TV business in India started doing the rounds late last year, though the listings weren’t removed (until now). You can still find an odd OnePlus TV selling on Amazon, but it could be clearance of stock.

We’re yet to get any statement from OnePlus confirming or denying the speculations or even more importantly, how it plans to support existing owners of a OnePlus TV/monitor, if at all it was exiting the space. Watch this space for more details.
