OnePlus 12 to launch in India on January 24 with a ‘familiar’ camera setup

OnePlus has revealed the full camera specifications of the OnePlus 12 ahead of launch.

OnePlus 12 India launch
OnePlus 12 is OnePlus's next flagship phone.

The OnePlus 12 is officially launching in China on December 5, 2023. OnePlus isn’t out with a global launch date yet, but it could be as soon as January 2024. And before you ask, the phone is confirmed to launch in India, too. As for when, it’s most probably on January 24, 2024.

As is usually the case with these things, OnePlus has kicked-off its promotional campaigns to hype the OnePlus 12 (you can even pre-order the phone ahead of launch if you happen to be in China). The hype-wagon extends beyond the China market and so you’ll find OnePlus doing marketing activities around the phone globally, in markets including the UK and India. In both the markets, it is hosting the “OnePlus 12 Subscribe to Win Contest” on its official website where lucky winners stand the chance to get the OnePlus 12 (and other yet-to-be-released OnePlus products) for free.

The campaign starts November 27 through January 23, “the day before OnePlus 12 launch event,” as per the terms and conditions page. Now, the two bits of information come from different pages. While the first half, which is the dateline, comes from the OnePlus UK page, the second part, which is the launch date, comes from the India page. The India page is curiously missing the date—January 23—and chances are it was silently removed soon after the news broke out but since India and the UK usually have the same launch date for OnePlus devices, it’s safe to assume the OnePlus 12 will launch in India on January 24, alongside the UK.

In other but related news, OnePlus has revealed the full camera specifications of the OnePlus 12 ahead of launch. The phone is confirmed to come with a 50-megapixel main Sony LYT-808 sensor, 48-megapixel Sony IMX581 sensor behind an ultrawide lens and another 64-megapixel OmniVision OV64B sensor behind a 3x periscope telephoto lens. If it all seems familiar, it’s because it is the same exact setup from the OnePlus Open/Oppo Find N3 at least as far as the hardware is concerned. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip should bring some improvements, but we’ll have to wait and watch out on that. Watch this space for more updates.
