OnePlus has started hyping its next flagship phone, OnePlus 12, and going by what’s being teased, things are starting to look pretty exciting. The OnePlus 12, which is already confirmed to come with Qualcomm’s brand-new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and 2K LTPO OLED display sourced from BOE, has now been confirmed to –also— get a 64-megapixel periscope zoom camera. The name of the sensor remains a mystery at the time of writing.
OnePlus isn’t sharing granular details either but going by latest trends, we can expect this telephoto setup to enable 3x optical zoom, sort of like on the iQOO 12 series phones. The iQOO 12 and iQOO 12 Pro’s 64-megapixel periscope telephoto is apparently so powerful, iQOO wants you to use it for “telephoto macros”. The setup allows for a versatile 70mm 230mm focal lengths on these phones while letting users take up to 100x zoom shots, digitally. We’ll have to wait and watch how things pan out for the OnePlus 12’s 64-megapixel periscope telephoto.
OnePlus has previously confirmed that the OnePlus 12 will come with a custom Sony LYTIA dual-layer stacked CMOS primary sensor for seemingly better low light photography while presumably also capturing more detail in good lighting. Going by the specs, the OnePlus 12 is looking to be a big overhaul at least in the camera department.
The OnePlus 11 for reference has a trio of sensors on the back. This includes a 50MP Sony IMX 890 main sensor with optical image stabilisation, 48MP Sony IMX 581 behind an ultrawide-angle lens (with autofocus so it can double as macro), and another 32MP 2x telephoto with RGBW arrangement for portraits.
Elsewhere, the OnePlus 12 will come with a brand-new LTPO X1 OLED display from BOE. The panel will boast of a 2K resolution and will theoretically be able to peak 2600nits in terms of brightness. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is also a surety on the OnePlus 12 and as we approach the end of 2023, chances are OnePlus might drop more juicy details as we fast approach launch date. The OnePlus 11 was launched in China in January 2023 followed by a global release soon after.
