Nothing confirmed today that its next smartphone, Nothing Phone 2a, will be launched on March 5 at an event titled “fresh eyes.” No further information has been shared, though going by Nothing’s past reveal and bunch of leaks on the internet, it is safe to presume, something affordable is coming. What remains to be seen is, at what cost.
We’ve said it before, Nothing’s choice of words for the Phone 2a makes it all but obvious that the phone is its answer to the OnePlus Nord line-up of devices, particularly the core edition models. In a press release sent out to the media recently, Nothing described Phone 2a as having been designed “with a focus on providing the optimal daily smartphone experience, doubling down on core user needs, with all of Nothing’s expertise and craftsmanship.”
The same release teased that the Phone 2a will leverage “some of the most loved Phone 2 features, while ensuring a clear upgrade compared to Phone 1 on every front.”
In the days up ahead, an image of the purported Phone 2a started doing the rounds, showing a back panel devoid of Nothing’s signature feature — the glyph lights. The internet remains divided on whether that’s even possible and if yes, what could be the repercussions. (The image has since been retracted.)
With Nothing dropping the ball on Phone 2a launch, looks like we won’t have to wait for long to get the real picture. But regardless of whether or not Nothing is planning any aesthetic changes, the Phone 2a is already looking like an interesting proposition. With a rumoured price tag of under Euro 400, its unique take on software and design could simply put, bring conversation back to user experience rather than plain old specs that almost every other brand from Poco to OnePlus are offering dime a dozen.
