In a move that merges nostalgia with modern tech, Nothing Company has officially released a new Snake game widget for its smartphones, developed through collaboration with its vibrant community. This widget, which brings the beloved retro game to users’ home screens, is part of a larger effort to integrate co-created software into the company’s ecosystem.
The idea for the widget was born from a series of community-generated concepts shared earlier this year. One standout submission came from community member @Rahul, who presented ten unique widget ideas, ranging from productivity tools to system monitoring features. His creative Snake game concept captured the attention of Nothing’s software team, who decided to bring it to life.
Rather than building the widget internally, the company reached out to @RapidZapper, a community developer known for his work on the Ear (web) app and Simone Glyph Game. RapidZapper was tasked with developing the Snake widget to provide users with an effortless, fun experience directly on their home screens.
The collaboration between RapidZapper and Nothing’s internal team moved quickly, with multiple prototypes tested before arriving at the final version. The result is a seamless Snake game widget that allows users to play the classic game in between tasks, tapping into the nostalgia of an earlier mobile gaming era.
The widget is now available for download through the Nothing Community Widgets section on the Google Play Store. Users can access it and enjoy a quick, entertaining break without needing to open a separate app.
Nothing’s move is part of a larger strategy to curate high-quality community-created widgets and bundle them into a single app on the Play Store, offering users a variety of features to enhance their devices. The company is encouraging more community members to submit their ideas, with the promise that the next great widget could be their own.
