After initiating a revamp 10 years ago, Netflix seems to be all set for a significant redesign of its television app. It looks like Netflix aims to simplify user experience and boost viewer engagement.
News comes in that initially the new design will be accessible to a select group of Netflix’s nearly 270 million global users.
Netflix Updates!
The upgrades include larger title cards, restructured information and a fresh “My Netflix” tab. Experts suggest that the new tab will also provide curated content tailored for each user. Now you can see your ‘saved later’ shows as a feature in the homepage.
The home page will be revamped with larger title cards and highlighted information such as a show’s duration in the top 10 list.
Also, previews of shows were not available on the homepage. Now you can hover over a TV show or movie long enough, and Netflix will begin playing a short preview directly within the tile. In addition to this you’ll find all the information about a title, including its synopsis, the year it was released, the number of episodes, and its genre, below the box.
“We often see members doing gymnastics with their eyes as they’re scanning the home experience. We really wanted members to have an easier time figuring out if a title is right for them,” Pat Flemming, Netflix’s senior director of product told The Verge.
What’s next!
Netflix plans to continue offering personalized suggestions to each user. It looks like Netflix said that it will make no changes to its recommendation algorithm as part of this redesign.
It is believed that the company also aims to gather feedback and potentially ‘refine the design’ before a wider rollout. With reports from The Verge, Flemming described this as a “first effort, our best initial swing, at what we think is a great new TV experience.”
Furthermore, Netflix also seems to be planning to stop regular reporting of subscriber numbers next year.
