Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ashwini Vaishnaw to discuss AI-driven tech collaboration and announced a $17.5 billion investment plan in India.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and thanked him for having an “inspiring conversation on India’s AI opportunity”, He also added that he is committing US$17.5 billion investment to help build and develop the country’s “AI first future”.

Apart from the Prime Minister Modi, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella met with Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on Tuesday. During the meeting the two discussed the role of artificial intelligence in public welfare, emerging technologies, and the importance of data sovereignty.

Nadella also claimed this is his company’s biggest investment in Asia:

Satya Nadella also claimed this is his company’s biggest investment in Asia. He said that Microsoft’s “largest investment ever in Asia” was aimed to help build the infrastructure, skills, and sovereign capabilities “needed for India’s AI first future”.

In a post on X, the Microsoft boss wrote, “Thank you, PM@narendramodi ji, for an inspiring conversation on India’s AI opportunity. To support the country’s ambitions, Microsoft is committing US$17.5B—our largest investment ever in Asia—to help build the infrastructure, skills, and sovereign capabilities needed for India’s AI first future. @PMOIndia”

PM Modi welcomed Microsoft’s investment:

“When it comes to AI, the world is optimistic about India! Had a very productive discussion with Mr. Satya Nadella. Happy to see India being the place where Microsoft will make its largest-ever investment in Asia,” PM Modi said in a post on X.

He further wrote, “The youth of India will harness this opportunity to innovate and leverage the power of AI for a better planet.”

In a post on X, the Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav shared that their discussion centred on strengthening India’s tech ecosystem and using AI to enhance governance and public services.

“Met Microsoft CEO Mr. @satyanadella. Discussed the use of AI for public good, frontier technologies, and data sovereignty. Microsoft’s landmark investment reflects India’s rise as a reliable global technology partner. This partnership will drive the country’s leap from digital to AI public infrastructure,” he wrote on X.
