On December 7, some X (earlier Twitter) said to have seen a glimpse of Aurora. Notably, Aurora is powered by Elon Musk’s Grok which is an artificial intelligence (AI) model. The X users said that they got to see the teaser of Aurora’s capabilities for some time. Please note that Aurora is not yet rolled out for the public. Aurora is an AI powered image generator, expected to be better than other AI- powered image generators. Here’s a look at what the tool has in store for you.
Aurora teases its capabilities
Aurora was showcased only for a limited time span but X users suggested that the AI tool can provide you with a more realistic image. Aurora’s detailed generations could be a better version from Grok’s Flux model. It has the potential to rival the output of other models such as OpenAI’s DALL·E 3.
In some brief tests, Aurora created images of copyrighted characters such as Mickey Mouse and public figures. This includes a depiction of a “bloodied Donald Trump,” but “stopped short of nudes.” Aurora’s beta version, just like Flux’s, appears to have few creative limitations, as reported by TechCrunch. In early tests by Business Insider, Grok’s Flux version also created images of Mickey Mouse but refused to create any violent imagery.
The images generated by Aurora did gain praise online for their quality and realism. However, there were still some loopholes that they were AI-generated. For example, some images showcased unusual proportions in the arms and hands. In addition to this there was some unrealistic smoothness to some facial and skin features.
Netizens react
After the model preview got leaked, some netizens were quite happy with the results. Some users with access to the model even shared photos of Aurora’s creations on X. This included images of Adam Sandler and Ray Romano on a sitcom set. However, some said that the results looked like AI generated images.
Furthermore, “X AI casually releases one of the best image models on a Saturday at 2am… @xai y’all are built differently,” Guillaume Verdon, the founder of AI startup Extropic In response to this Elon Musk said the teaser is just a beta version and the model will improve soon.
