The Nothing Phone 3a Series, which is set for launch on March 4, is designed in London and manufactured in India, Nothing announced today. By making the lineup locally, the upstart aims to harness India’s rich manufacturing ecosystem, invest in the local economy, and foster technological innovation, Nothing said in a statement shared with financialexpress.com over email.

Nothing says the Phone 3a series is being made at a facility in Chennai without specifying the name of the contract manufacturer. Local assembly is contributing to the creation of more than 500 jobs with 95 percent of the employees being women.

“This facility is central to the production of the Nothing Phone 3a Series, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to local manufacturing,” Nothing has reiterated, adding that “as Nothing deepens its roots in India, its local workforce continues to expand, further strengthening its alignment with the ‘Make in India’ initiative.”

Reflecting on sales numbers from Counterpoint Research, Nothing highlighted that it’s currently on a “strong” growth trajectory and that strong demand for the Phone 2a series has catapulted it to an impressive 577 percent year-over-year growth in India’s smartphone market in 2024. The brand crossed $1 billion in lifetime revenue recently.

Nothing has also touched upon the state of affair with regards to after sales and distribution in today’s announcement. It informed that it is running five exclusive service centres in Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Chennai, along with five priority desks and 300 multi-brand service centres at the time of writing. The brand’s retail footprint has gone up from 2,000 stores at the beginning of last year to 7,000 stores currently.

Nothing is ringing into the new year with the Phone 3a series, a relatively affordable mid-range offering, that is expected to spawn two models: a standard Phone 3a and Phone 3a Pro. The phones are expected to debut Nothing’s first dedicated telephoto zoom lens on a smartphone and will feature its iconic LED lighting called “glyph.” Software is going to be another big differentiator with Nothing making considerable investment to stand out from competition even as it looks to become the Apple of Android.
