Apple today launched the 2024 refresh of its most powerful laptop, the MacBook Pro, presumably the last (and best) product reveal of what has been a week full of “Mac focused” announcements kicking off with the new iMac, then the Mac Mini update. The spotlight is on M4, its latest and greatest chip that made its debut earlier in the year inside the iPad Pro. An M4-based Mac was inevitable. While the iMac got the M4, the Mac Mini got first dibs at the M4 Pro. The MacBook Pro unsurprisingly takes it up a notch by debuting an even more powerful version—M4 Max. Like the 2023 version, the sequel also offers three combinations—M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max. You can—yet again—get it in two sizes: 14- and 16-inch with prices starting at Rs 1,69,900. The M4 MacBook Pro is available to pre-order today and it will be available starting November 8.
M4 MacBook Pro: Specs, features
The base 14-inch MacBook Pro comes with the new M4 chip, delivering a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU. It offers up to 1.8x faster speeds than the previous 13-inch M1 model, Apple says, making it ideal for tasks like photo editing and video rendering. The M4 model also supports two external displays and comes with three Thunderbolt 4 ports for seamless connectivity.
For users who need even more power, the M4 Pro chip boosts the CPU to 14 cores and the GPU to 20 cores, offering 3x faster speeds than the M1 Pro. It supports more memory bandwidth—Apple says by 75 percent over the previous generation—enabling smooth handling of tasks like geo-mapping, data modelling, and structural engineering.

The M4 Max chip pushes the limits further with 16 CPU cores and up to 40 GPU cores, perfect for visual effects, 3D animation, and film production. It supports up to 128GB unified memory.

Both 14-inch and 16-inch models feature Liquid Retina XDR “mini-LED” displays like before but you now have an option for a nano-texture finish for glare reduction even as the SDR brightness has been bumped up to 1,000 nits.
The M4 Pro and M4 Max versions come equipped with Thunderbolt 5 ports, offering 120 Gb/s transfer speeds, along with HDMI supporting 8K resolution, MagSafe 3 charging, and Wi-Fi 6E. The battery life has been improved with Apple quoting up to 24 hours of use (up from 22 hours on the predecessor).
